by: Jinky C. Mesias
Impotency is becoming a common problem nowadays; it’s probably because of today’s stressful way of life. People always seemed in a hurry that later in the evening it poses a problem especially when it comes to performing in bed since sex requires concentration as well as relaxation. And aside from that sex could not be performed in haste and in tension. In order to get the optimal effect of sex both partners has to be relaxed. Impotency or erectile dysfunction is most common among men. This erectile dysfunction is a condition in which the male organ does not have the proper erection needed for a pleasurable and satisfying sexual intercourse. Aside from that, men experiencing erectile dysfunction also tend to lose not only the power to erect but even the ability to lubricate thus making the sexual act a not so pleasurable experience. Impotency comes in three forms. The first form of impotency is called the primary impotency wherein the problem of erectile dysfunction is present from the very start of the sexual activity. The second form is called the secondary impotency which is the most common and not so alarming since this form only implies that failure of erection is due to factors such as stress and will not result to a permanent erectile dysfunction. The third form is impotency due to advancement in age since older men just simply doesn’t have the usual strength that younger men have to hold or keep their erection. Aside from that there are factors that contribute or cause impotency. One factor that causes impotency is excessive masturbation and even an excessive intercourse may also result to impotency. Moreover, impotency may also be the cause of depression, stress, fatigue, alcoholism, smoking, drug abuse, side effects of medication, childhood abuse as well as too much sexual indulgence. And also, there are certain diseases that also cause impotency and these are as follows: diabetes, blockage in the arteries, neurological disorders, and disease in the erectile tissue of the penis, pelvic surgery or trauma, disease of the kidney and the liver, hormonal abnormalities, and peyronic disease. In addition, men with impotency problems have genital organs that can be considered as paralyzed since their penis can not have an erection and therefore can not engaged in a sexual act. However, there are some cases wherein a impotent man can have an erection but the problem with it is that he discharges before intercourse and if that happens the penis returns to its soft state. The problem of impotency does not only revolve around the erection of the penis but somehow poses a much greater and deeper problem such the feeling of being useless as well as the deterioration of self-esteem. In fact there are cases wherein men with impotency problems commit suicide since they can no longer bear the humiliation of not having an erection.
